Severe thunderstorms accompanied by destructive winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall are impacting the Chicago area.
Tornado warnings have been issued for parts of DuPage, Cook, and Will Counties in Illinois, as well as Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana, until at least 1:30 p.m.

Impact & Risks

The severe weather poses significant risks to life and property. The NWS warns of potential injuries to people and animals outdoors, as well as damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles due to large hail. Flying debris from tornadoes could be dangerous for those without shelter. Additionally, torrential rainfall may lead to localized flooding. Ground stops have been issued at O'Hare and Midway airports, disrupting air travel. The extreme heat advisory in the area further compounds the risks, with heat warnings in effect until 9 p.m. CDT.
