US · Published Jun 29, 2026
A significant heat wave is set to impact much of the eastern United States this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s °F (32-37 °C) and even low 100s °F (37-38 °C) in some areas, with heat indexes reaching 100-115 °F (38-46 °C) due to high humidity.

Impact & Risks

The heat wave poses significant risks, particularly for those without access to air conditioning. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses, especially in urban areas where overnight lows may not drop below 80 °F (27 °C). Vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, are at heightened risk. The heat index, which accounts for humidity, will make outdoor activities dangerous, with values reaching up to 115 °F (46 °C).
