• The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) has raised the Volcano Alert Level for Kilauea to WATCH and the Aviation Color Code to ORANGE following increased volcanic activity.
• Precursory low-level eruptions began on November 2, 2026, with lava flows emerging from the north vent within Halema'uma'u crater.

Impact & Risks

The eruption poses risks to areas within 3 miles of the vents, including tephra fall, vog, and elevated sulfur dioxide levels. Pele’s Hair and ash may travel further, causing respiratory and visibility issues. While lava flows are confined to Halema'uma'u crater, the potential for high fountaining episodes could increase hazards. Visitors to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park should exercise caution and follow safety advisories.
