Tropical Storm Lala is currently impacting the Hawaiian Islands, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high surf to areas including Oahu, Maui County, and Kauai County (KITV, 2026).
As of 140 miles west-southwest of Honolulu, the storm is moving west-northwest at 16 mph with sustained winds of 65 mph.

Impact & Risks

The storm is causing significant impacts across the Hawaiian Islands, particularly in Oahu, Maui County, and Kauai County. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph in some areas, are leading to downed trees, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions. Flooding remains a major concern, with rivers and streams at risk of overflowing, and low-lying areas experiencing rapid inundation. Beach erosion and coastal overwash are also possible due to elevated surf. While the Big Island has seen a reduction in rainfall, the saturated ground from previous rains keeps the flood risk high. Tornadoes are also a potential hazard in Maui County, Oahu, and Kauai.
