Heavy Rain and Flooding Expected Across Louisiana Through Friday Morning

A potential tropical cyclone, currently located near Corpus Christi, Texas, is expected to bring significant rainfall and flooding to Louisiana and parts of Mississippi through Friday morning.
According to WDSU, rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour have already been observed in areas like Kenner, with localized heavy rain moving into Madisonville, Mandeville, and Lacombe.

Why It's Important?

The primary concern is heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, particularly in southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Areas such as Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Covington are at risk of receiving over 10 inches of rain in localized bands. Coastal areas may experience tides 1 to 3 feet above normal, though wind and coastal flooding are secondary concerns. An isolated tornado risk also exists due to the system's dynamics. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant as some forecast models indicate potentially life-threatening flash flooding.
