An extreme heat watch has been issued for much of Upstate New York, including Central, Eastern, and parts of Southern New York, as dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected to develop ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Tuesday, June 30, from noon to 8 p.m., with heat index values reaching up to 97°F.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals with chronic health conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The lack of cooling relief during the night further exacerbates the risk. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions to stay safe during this period of intense heat.
