A virtual workshop on the Tsunami Ready Programme was organised on 16th March by the Directorate of Disaster Management, Andaman & Nicobar (A&N) Administration, in collaboration with the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
The event aimed to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience in the tsunami-prone Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Impact & Risks

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes. The Tsunami Ready Programme aims to mitigate risks by improving community preparedness and response mechanisms. Enhanced early warning systems, evacuation plans, and public awareness campaigns are expected to reduce the loss of life and property during tsunami events. The programme's success depends on active participation from local authorities, tribal leaders, and community members, ensuring that all stakeholders are equipped to handle potential disasters effectively.
