• The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a seven-day weather forecast covering the period from 17 to 23 October
• During 17–19 October, a weak high-pressure system from China will affect the upper North, upper Northeast of Thailand, and the South China Sea, leading to easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf. The monsoon trough will lie across the South, resulting in isolated heavy to very heavy rains in southern regions. From 20–23 October, another high-pressure system from China will extend to the upper North, upper Northeast, and South China Sea, with the monsoon trough shifting to the east, upper Gulf, and upper South. Continuous rainfall and isolated heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the lower Central region, including Bangkok, and the East. The Andaman Sea and the Gulf will experience waves of about 1 metre, rising to over 2 metres during thundershowers.

Impact & Risks

The forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in southern Thailand, the lower Central region, and the East could lead to localised flooding and disruptions. Coastal areas along the Andaman Sea and the Gulf may face rough sea conditions, with waves exceeding 2 metres during thundershowers. Residents in these regions, particularly those in flood-prone areas, should remain vigilant. Maritime activities in the affected seas could be hazardous, posing risks to small boats and fishing operations.
