Cyclonic Circulation to Impact North Andaman Sea
• An upper-air cyclonic circulation was observed over north Thailand as of 0830 hours IST on September 18, 2026, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). This system is expected to move over the north Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18, 2026, and develop into a low-pressure area by the evening of September 19,
• The system is forecasted to intensify gradually and move west-northwestward toward the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the next 3-4 days. Additionally, a Western Disturbance is present as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies along Long. 75°E to the north of Lat. 28°N, and a trough extends from Sikkim to the North Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh in the lower tropospheric levels.
Impact & Risks
The developing low-pressure system over the north Andaman Sea could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts in the coming days. Coastal areas may experience rough sea conditions, posing risks to fishermen and small vessels. The Western Disturbance and associated troughs may also lead to localized weather changes, including rainfall, in northern and northeastern regions of India.
