Squally Weather and Rough Seas Forecasted Over Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, over the northeast Bay of Bengal and along the Bangladesh coasts from 29th September to 1st October
• Rough to very rough sea conditions are expected over the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, as well as along the Myanmar coast until the evening of 29th September. Wind speeds are predicted to increase to 50-60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, by the afternoon of 29th September and further to 55-65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph, by the evening. Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh on 29th September.
Impact & Risks
The squally weather and rough sea conditions pose risks to maritime activities in the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and coastal areas of Myanmar and Bangladesh. Fishermen and small vessels are particularly vulnerable to the high wind speeds and turbulent seas. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Northwest India may disrupt daily activities and pose safety risks to residents in affected areas.
