The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on Sunday, 20 September
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, ranging from 30-50 km/h, are expected in several regions, including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, and Telangana. Rainfall activity is likely to persist across southern, eastern, central, and northeastern India, with strong surface winds anticipated in some areas. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in specific regions, such as Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, during the coming days.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and thunderstorms may lead to localised flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions in daily life, particularly in low-lying areas. Gusty winds could pose risks to infrastructure, trees, and power lines. Coastal regions, including Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, may experience strong winds, potentially affecting marine activities. The IMD has also highlighted the possibility of very heavy rainfall in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, which could exacerbate risks in these areas.
