IMD Issues Alerts for Heavy Rainfall Across Multiple States
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts for heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast by the morning of 24 September
• Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of Rajasthan, marking the end of an erratic season.
Impact & Risks
The heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, flash floods, and disruptions in daily life across affected states. Farmers may face challenges in protecting crops, while urban areas could experience transport delays. Coastal regions are at risk of strong winds and rough seas, posing a danger to fishermen and small boats.
