IN · Published Nov 1, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several states in southern and eastern India due to a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal. This system, currently a well-marked low-pressure area, is expected to intensify into a depression and potentially evolve into a cyclonic storm. It is projected to move west-northwestwards and approach the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast by the evening of November
• Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall on November 2, followed by very heavy rain on November

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses risks of localised flooding, waterlogging, and damage to standing crops, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are at the highest risk, with potential disruptions to transport, power services, and harvesting activities. The IMD has also warned of strong winds and rough seas, which could endanger fishermen and coastal communities. Odisha, still recovering from the impacts of Cyclone Arnab, may face additional challenges, including further flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
