Arunachal Pradesh Faces Severe 41% Rainfall Deficit Amid Changing Climate
IN · Published Sep 23, 2026
Arunachal Pradesh is experiencing a significant rainfall deficit during the current monsoon season.
Between 1 June and 16 September 2026, the state received only 900.4 mm of rainfall, compared to the normal 1,535.6 mm, marking a 41% shortfall.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall deficit has severely impacted agriculture in Arunachal Pradesh, where many families depend on farming for their livelihood. The lack of adequate rainfall has increased the risk of soil moisture stress, particularly in rainfed areas like East Siang district. Farmers are being forced to abandon their fields or seek alternative livelihoods, raising concerns about food security in the region. The situation highlights the vulnerability of traditional agricultural practices to changing weather patterns and the urgent need for climate adaptation measures.
