Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Impact Eastern and Northeastern India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Odisha.
Rainfall amounts between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm are expected in these areas.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and thunderstorms could lead to flooding, waterlogging, and damage to infrastructure in the affected regions. Bihar is particularly vulnerable, with significant flooding already reported. Strong winds and lightning pose additional risks to life and property in southern and northeastern states. Agricultural activities and transportation may also be disrupted.
