• Temperatures across several regions in India are significantly above normal, according to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• Minimum temperatures are markedly above normal by more than 5.1°C (9.2°F) in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, East and West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh.

Impact & Risks

The above-normal temperatures could lead to heat-related health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Agricultural activities may also be impacted, especially in regions like Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, where high temperatures could stress crops. Additionally, the flash flood risk in certain areas poses a threat to low-lying regions and communities near rivers and watersheds, potentially leading to localized flooding and disruptions.
