East Coast Prepares for First Summer-Like Heatwave of the Season
US · Published May 18, 2026
The East Coast is set to experience its first significant heatwave of the season, with temperatures expected to rise into the upper 80s and low 90s°F (31-33°C) over the weekend and into early next week.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, this surge in warmth follows a cooler-than-average start to May.
The heatwave will begin in the Midwest and Southeast before spreading to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Why It's Important?

Nearly 250 million Americans along the East Coast and surrounding regions will be affected by this heatwave. The sudden rise in temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. Energy demand is likely to spike as residents turn to air conditioning to stay cool. Outdoor activities may also be impacted, with increased risks of dehydration and heat exhaustion.
