Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant health risks, particularly for those spending prolonged periods outdoors. High humidity reduces the body's ability to cool itself, increasing the likelihood of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, are at heightened risk. Symptoms of heat-related illnesses include dizziness, confusion, nausea, and fainting. Residents in cities like Augusta and Savannah, where the heat index is expected to peak at 111°F (43.9°C) and 110°F (43.3°C), should exercise extra caution.
