Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Augusta from Arthur’s Remnants

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur are forecasted to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Augusta, Georgia area.
According to Chris Landolfi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina, the storm is expected to lose its tropical characteristics within 12 to 24 hours as it moves inland.

Why It's Important?

Residents in Augusta and surrounding areas should prepare for potential flash flooding, which could render some roads impassable. The marginal risk for severe weather includes damaging wind gusts and a low chance of tornadoes. While the rainfall will help reduce the current drought conditions, it is not expected to eliminate them entirely. The region has experienced below-average precipitation this year, ranking as the sixth-driest January through April on record. The incoming rain will provide some relief but will not fully address the water deficit.
