Air Quality Advisory Issued for Oregon and Washington Due to Wildfire Smoke
US · Published Aug 11, 2026
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, and Washington Southwest Clean Air Agency have issued an air quality advisory due to smoke from multiple wildfires in Oregon and Washington.
The advisory affects numerous counties, including Baker, Crook, Deschutes, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jackson, Jefferson, Josephine, Klamath, central and eastern Lane, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, and Wheeler.

Impact & Risks

The wildfire smoke is causing unhealthy air quality levels across large portions of Oregon and Washington. Vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions, are at higher risk of health complications. Prolonged exposure to smoke can lead to respiratory irritation, reduced lung function, and exacerbation of pre-existing conditions. Outdoor activities should be limited, especially in areas with visible haze or strong smoke odors.
