IN · Published Aug 25, 2026
Heavy rainfall in Odisha has caused widespread flooding, affecting 21 blocks across six districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Kalahandi, and Koraput.
Major rivers such as the Baitarani, Subarnarekha, Brahmani, and Salandi are in spate, with water levels in some areas exceeding warning levels.

Impact & Risks

The floods have marooned several villages, particularly in Kalahandi and Koraput districts, disrupting daily life and causing significant damage to property and infrastructure. Riverside villages in Jajpur and Kendrapara districts are among the worst affected. The inundation of low-lying areas, closure of underpasses, and damage to kutcha roads and standing crops pose additional challenges. Livestock has also been impacted, with over 1,562 metric tonnes of cattle feed supplied to affected areas.
