IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Warnings for Odisha Districts
IN · Published Sep 3, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days.
On September 2, an Orange Warning is in place for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and gusty winds could lead to waterlogging, localised flooding, and disruption of daily activities in the affected districts. Thunderstorms and lightning pose a risk to life and property, particularly in open areas. Gusty winds may cause damage to weak structures, trees, and power lines, potentially leading to power outages. Coastal and interior districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, and Ganjam, are particularly vulnerable to these conditions.
