The tornado originated as a waterspout over the Patapsco River, near the Seagirt Marine Terminal, before moving onshore and transitioning into a tornado. The event was part of a severe thunderstorm system that interacted with a bay breeze. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 65 mph (104.6 km/h), a path length of 2.0 miles (3.2 km), and a maximum width of 90 yards (82.3 m). No fatalities or injuries were reported. The tornado caused damage to trees, power poles, and structures along its path, including uprooting a large hardwood tree and snapping another.
