Flood Watch Issued for Maryland Amid Heavy Thunderstorms
US · Published Jul 6, 2026
A Flood Watch has been issued for Maryland as heavy thunderstorms continue to impact the region.
On July 6, Baltimore's BWI Airport recorded over 1 inch of rain, marking only the third time this year such rainfall has occurred.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall has increased the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents in Maryland, especially those in Western Howard County, should remain vigilant as slow-moving storm cells could exacerbate flooding conditions. Wind gusts of up to 70 mph pose additional risks, including downed trees and power lines. The marginal risk of severe weather could lead to localized damage and travel disruptions.
