• The Indian government has reviewed preparedness measures for Cyclone Arnab, which is expected to make landfall as a very severe cyclonic storm on October
• The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), chaired by Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, emphasised the importance of ensuring zero loss of life and minimising damage to property and infrastructure. The IMD forecasts sustained winds of 115-125 km/h, gusting to 140 km/h, during landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Impact & Risks

Cyclone Arnab poses risks of structural damage, uprooted trees, power outages, and flooding in low-lying areas. Heavy rainfall could disrupt transportation and daily life across multiple states. Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to dangerous sea conditions, which could impact fishermen and maritime activities. The government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and kept rescue and relief teams from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard on standby.
