A fresh spell of monsoon rainfall caused a massive mudslide in the Ragi Nullah area between Batote and Doda on Sunday, blocking the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) for several hours.
The mudslide deposited a significant amount of mud, stones, and debris onto the highway, halting vehicular movement on this critical road link.

Impact & Risks

The mudslide disrupted connectivity between Batote, Doda, and Kishtwar, affecting commuters and goods transport. Vulnerable stretches along NH-244 and the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remain prone to further disruptions due to continued rainfall, increasing the risk of landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides. Heavy vehicles and passenger vehicles face delays, particularly at single-lane portions. Authorities have cautioned that traffic may be suspended if weather conditions worsen.
