• The Department of Meteorology has issued a red alert for the Bay of Bengal following the formation of a low-pressure area near the Northern Andaman Islands.
• The system is expected to intensify into a depression within 24 hours (by 24 October 2026) and further strengthen into a deep depression by 25 October.

Impact & Risks

The low-pressure system poses significant risks to maritime activities in the Bay of Bengal. Strong winds and rough seas are expected, creating hazardous conditions for fishing and naval operations. The affected area is bounded by latitude 10°N to 20°N and longitude 80°E to 95°E. Fishing vessels and other maritime operators in these waters are at high risk and are advised to take immediate precautions.
