IMD Monitors Potential Low-Pressure System in Bay of Bengal
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a circulation near the Thailand coast is expected to enter the North Andaman Sea by 18 September
• By the evening of 19 September, this system is likely to concentrate into a low-pressure area over the East-Central Bay of Bengal and the North Andaman Sea. The IMD Director General, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, clarified that it is too early to determine whether this system will intensify into a depression or cyclone. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Odisha under its influence. International weather models have suggested favourable conditions for cyclone development, but the IMD has urged the public not to panic and assured timely updates.
