Beartooth Highway Reopens for the Season Following Spring Clearing
US · Published May 28, 2026
The Beartooth Highway, a scenic route connecting Montana and Wyoming, has officially reopened for the season after its annual spring clearing.
According to the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), the highway is now accessible up to the Montana-Wyoming border.
Beyond this point, the National Park Service manages the roadway through Wyoming and into Yellowstone National Park.

Why It's Important?

The reopening of the Beartooth Highway is expected to benefit local tourism and provide easier access to Yellowstone National Park. However, travelers should remain cautious as weather conditions in the region can change rapidly, even during the summer months. Snow, fog, and high winds are not uncommon at higher elevations, which could pose risks to drivers. Visitors are advised to check for updates on road conditions before embarking on their journey.
