• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and parts of South Interior Karnataka, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from September 29 to October
• Bengaluru experienced fresh rainfall on September 29, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in several areas. A tree fell on a car in the Malleswaram area due to overnight rain. North Interior Karnataka is also under a thunderstorm and lightning warning for September 29 and 30, with conditions expected to ease thereafter. The IMD has highlighted that rainfall intensity will vary across districts, with some areas experiencing more severe weather than others.

Impact & Risks

The ongoing rainfall and thunderstorms have already caused waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and isolated incidents of tree falls in Bengaluru. These conditions pose risks to commuters, pedestrians, and residents in low-lying areas. The combination of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds increases the likelihood of further disruptions, including damage to infrastructure and potential hazards for those outdoors. The uneven distribution of rainfall across Karnataka means that some regions may face more significant impacts than others.
