The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 23 districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms and rainfall over the next 24 hours.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms is expected in northern, western, and coastal parts of the state.

Impact & Risks

The thunderstorms and rainfall could pose risks to residents, particularly in open areas where lightning strikes are more likely. The IMD has advised caution during outdoor activities to minimise exposure to lightning and thunderstorm-related hazards. The weakened monsoon has also resulted in higher temperatures and humidity, which may lead to discomfort and health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
