Parts of western and southern Odisha have experienced widespread rainfall over the last 24 hours, leading to flooding in low-lying areas and disruptions in daily life.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall in five districts, including Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, and Nawarangpur.

Impact & Risks

Flooding has disrupted communication and forced evacuations in Kalahandi district, where families from remote areas were relocated to safer locations. Waterlogging and heavy rainfall have raised concerns in flood-affected areas, particularly in Balasore, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. The IMD has warned of continued heavy rainfall, which could exacerbate the situation in vulnerable regions. The movement of the low-pressure system may also impact adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal.
