Recent studies have highlighted significant sediment-related changes in India's major rivers, the Brahmaputra and Godavari, due to natural events and human interventions.
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) found that mass-wasting events in the Eastern Himalayas have caused sediment to travel up to 1,000 km downstream, altering river morphology and increasing flood risks.

In the Godavari, reduced sediment flow threatens the delta's stability, making it more vulnerable to erosion and rising sea levels.
