Heat Advisory Issued for Much of New York as Temperatures Could Feel Like 104°F

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of western, central, and eastern New York, effective from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14,
Heat index values, which account for both temperature and humidity, are expected to range from 95°F to 104°F (35°C to 40°C) across the state. Specific regions such as the Lake Plains, Genesee Valley, Finger Lakes, and parts of the Capital Region may experience the highest heat indices, reaching up to 104°F. This advisory covers cities including Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Watertown, and others.

Impact & Risks

The combination of high temperatures and humidity poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as older adults, young children, and individuals with chronic medical conditions. Outdoor workers and those spending extended periods outside are also at heightened risk. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure to these conditions can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which requires immediate medical attention.
