• The remnants of former Hurricane Polo have brought record-breaking rainfall and widespread flooding to parts of the US Southwest and Plains.
• From 25 September to 2 October 2026, areas such as Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska experienced heavy downpours, with some locations recording over 8 inches of rain.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall has led to flash flooding in urban areas, low-lying regions, and along rivers. In Texas, roads and homes were inundated, and vehicles were stranded in cities like Dallas and Houston. Kansas experienced multiple water rescues and damage to bridges, while Nebraska saw vehicles stranded and landslides in some areas. The flooding has also caused disruptions in transportation and posed risks to public safety. Tornadoes were reported in the Texas Panhandle and western Kansas, adding to the hazards.
