The Building Resiliency to Wildfire Project (BRW), funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, is conducting prescribed burns in California's coastal foothills.
These controlled burns, also known as intentional or good fires, are designed to reduce wildfire risks, improve wildlife habitats, and enhance the resilience of native plants.

Impact & Risks

Prescribed burns in California's coastal foothills aim to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, which have become more frequent and severe in recent years. These burns also provide ecological benefits, such as improving habitats for wildlife and supporting the growth of native plant species. While the burns are carefully managed, there is always a slight risk of unintended fire spread, which is mitigated through strict safety protocols.
