Pineapple Express Brings Flood Threat to Southwest
US · Published Oct 29, 2026
• An atmospheric river, commonly referred to as the 'Pineapple Express,' is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall to parts of the Desert Southwest and Southern California over Halloween weekend.
• This weather system, fueled by tropical moisture originating near Hawaii, is expected to deliver two rounds of rain.

Impact & Risks

The saturated ground from previous storms increases the risk of flash flooding, particularly in northern Arizona, New Mexico, southern Colorado, and southern Utah. Areas such as the Phoenix metro's north and east sides, the Four Corners region, and San Diego County's foothills are of particular concern. Burn scars from recent wildfires may also lead to debris flows. Additionally, high mountain areas could see snowfall, creating slippery travel conditions over mountain passes. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant as life-threatening flash floods could occur, especially in slot canyons and other vulnerable locations.
