California, Oregon, and Washington Face 'Lethal Temperatures' Amid Heat Wave
US · Published Jun 15, 2026
Millions of residents across California, Oregon, and Washington are under extreme heat warnings as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts dangerously high temperatures.
California is expected to see highs reaching up to 110°F (43°C), with overnight lows in the 70s°F (21-26°C), offering little relief.

Why It's Important?

The extreme heat poses significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those without access to cooling. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has warned that the lack of overnight cooling exacerbates these risks. Additionally, infrastructure and health systems may face strain due to the sustained heat. Residents are also cautioned about the dangers of cold-water shock in rivers and lakes, as people may seek relief in these areas despite the water remaining dangerously cold.
