These floods can lead to loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and environmental degradation. The South Lhonak Lake GLOF in Sikkim, for instance, destroyed the Teesta-III dam, showcasing the catastrophic impact of such events. Vulnerable populations near glacial lakes and downstream areas are at the highest risk, with potential transboundary effects requiring coordinated regional responses.
