• A section of the 160-year-old MCD Town Hall in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, collapsed on 31 October 2026 following two days of heavy rainfall.
• The affected portion, already declared unsafe and cordoned off, included the roof and two large beams of the entrance porch, as well as parts of the facade, first floor, and surrounding walls.

Impact & Risks

The collapse has highlighted the vulnerability of the Grade-I protected heritage structure, which has been underutilised since the MCD headquarters moved to a new location in 2011-12. While no injuries were reported due to prior safety measures, the incident underscores the risks posed by heavy rainfall to ageing infrastructure. The damage to the historic building, which has significant cultural and historical value, raises concerns about the preservation of Delhi's architectural heritage.
