• The Tamil Nadu Health Minister, K.G.
• Arunraj, has advised pregnant women in low-lying and flood-prone areas to get admitted to government hospitals at least a week before their expected delivery dates.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and potential flooding pose significant risks to residents in low-lying and coastal areas, particularly pregnant women and patients requiring critical care. Hospitals in vulnerable locations are at risk of waterlogging, which could disrupt medical services. There is also an increased likelihood of disease outbreaks, including dengue, leptospirosis, and diarrhoea, due to stagnant water and poor sanitation. The government’s proactive measures aim to mitigate these risks and ensure the safety of vulnerable populations.
