• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a pre-cyclone watch for the Andhra Pradesh coast as a new weather system, Cyclone Murasu, is expected to make landfall on 3rd November.
• The system originated as a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea on 29th October and has since intensified into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Impact & Risks

Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds to southern Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha. Rainfall in Andhra Pradesh is likely to peak on 2nd and 3rd November, with some areas receiving 200-300 mm of rain. South Odisha may experience heavy rainfall on 3rd and 4th November. The cyclone's strong winds and heavy rains could lead to flooding, damage to infrastructure, and disruption of daily life in the affected regions. The IMD has highlighted the potential for significant impacts due to the cyclone's intensity and slow movement during landfall.
