Thunderstorms and Rain Forecast Across Tamil Nadu; Chennai May See Evening Showers
IN · Published Sep 5, 2026
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across several parts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, particularly in the Western Ghats districts and parts of southern Tamil Nadu.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation over coastal Tamil Nadu and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, along with a trough extending from south interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar, is contributing to the wet weather.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall is expected to be light to moderate, with no significant warnings issued for fishermen along the Tamil Nadu coast, Bay of Bengal, or Arabian Sea from September 5 to 8. However, maximum temperatures in interior districts may rise by 2–4°C above normal, potentially causing discomfort. Coastal areas, including Chennai, are likely to experience temperatures close to seasonal levels. The rain may provide some relief from the heat but could also lead to minor disruptions in daily activities in affected areas.
