The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecasted rain in Chennai and eight other districts in Tamil Nadu until 7 PM on September 5,
The affected districts include Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Chengalpattu. The weather conditions are attributed to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 36-37°C (96.8-98.6°F), while nighttime temperatures will drop to 26-27°C (78.8-80.6°F). The forecast suggests moderate rainfall in these areas, which may provide relief from the prevailing heat.

Impact & Risks

The expected rainfall may lead to localized waterlogging in low-lying areas of Chennai and the surrounding districts. Residents are advised to be cautious of slippery roads and potential disruptions to daily activities. The rain could also provide temporary relief from the high temperatures, which have been hovering around 36-37°C (96.8-98.6°F) during the day. However, those living in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant as heavy rainfall could exacerbate existing drainage issues.
