Severe Weather Alert: Long-Track Tornadoes and Destructive Winds Threaten Midwest
US · Published Jun 17, 2026
The Midwest is bracing for another severe weather outbreak on Wednesday, following last week's destructive storms.
According to FOX Weather, a Level 4 out of 5 severe storm risk has been issued for parts of northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana.

Why It's Important?

Millions across the Midwest, particularly in Illinois and Indiana, are at risk of severe weather impacts. The primary threats include intense tornadoes capable of causing widespread destruction, damaging winds that could topple trees and power lines, and large hail that may damage property. Areas already recovering from previous storms could face additional challenges, including power outages and structural damage. The Storm Prediction Center has also issued a broader Level 3 and Level 2 risk for surrounding areas, extending the potential impact zone to cities like Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago.
