Tornado Warning Issued for Chicago Region Amid Severe Storms
• The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado warning for the Chicago region, including Will, DuPage, Cook, and Lake counties, as severe thunderstorms with strong winds and heavy rainfall approach the area. The warning is in effect until mid-morning on Tuesday, August 11,
• A severe thunderstorm watch is also active until 2 p.m. across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. Meteorologist Kevin Donofrio from the NWS Chicago station reported that the storm system, originating from the Mississippi River, is expected to bring wind speeds of 70-80 mph, comparable to those of a tornado. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued ground stops for both O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport, with restrictions in place until 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
