Air Quality Alert Issued for Miami Valley Region Amid High Heat Index
US · Published Jul 17, 2026
An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Shelby counties in the Miami Valley Region, effective until midnight EDT tonight.
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency have warned that fine particulate levels are expected to reach the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' range.

Impact & Risks

The air quality conditions pose significant risks to sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions. Prolonged outdoor exposure may lead to symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. The combination of poor air quality and high heat indices increases the likelihood of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those engaging in strenuous outdoor activities.
