Tropical Cyclone Arthur has weakened to a low-pressure area along the upper Texas coast but continues to bring heavy rain and flooding to the southeastern United States.
According to NBC News, rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches (13 to 25 cm) are expected, with isolated areas receiving up to 20 inches (50 cm).

Why It's Important?

The prolonged heavy rainfall is expected to cause dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Swells generated by Arthur are creating hazardous surf and rip-current conditions along the Gulf Coast. Tornadoes remain a threat in some areas, compounding the risks. Emergency measures, including sandbag distribution and drainage clearing, are underway in affected communities. The storm has already caused fatalities, including the drowning of a teenager in Texas.
