Severe Storm Threat Persists Across Central U.S., Hail Possible in Texas
US · Published May 20, 2026
Severe weather continues to impact the central U.S., with lingering storms expected from Texas to the Great Lakes.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk (Level 2 out of 5) for areas including Rochester, Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Memphis, Little Rock, Dallas, and San Antonio.
These storms are remnants of a system that produced 19 tornadoes on Monday in Kansas, Nebraska, and the Iowa-Missouri border.

Why It's Important?

The primary risks include damaging wind gusts and large hail, particularly in West Texas along and south of Interstate 20. While the tornado threat is minimal, residents should remain vigilant as isolated storms could still produce hazardous conditions. The squall line's strong winds may cause localized damage to structures, trees, and power lines. Areas from Texas to the Great Lakes should prepare for potential disruptions, including power outages and travel delays.
