The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has issued an air quality forecast for the upcoming days. On September 8 and 9, southwesterly winds are expected to transport regional pollutants into Delaware, leading to low-Moderate AQI levels for ozone and PM2.
Temperatures in the mid-80s °F (29-30 °C) and sunny skies will contribute to ozone formation. By September 10, a cold front and scattered thunderstorms are anticipated to improve air quality, with AQI levels forecasted to be high-Good for ozone and Good for PM2.

Impact & Risks

Moderate air quality levels may pose health risks to sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. While air quality is generally acceptable, prolonged exposure to pollutants like ozone and PM2.5 can cause respiratory irritation and exacerbate existing health issues. On days with higher ozone levels, even healthy individuals may experience discomfort during strenuous outdoor activities.
